Its pretty clear that kickstarters do not hold appeal as once they did after a few disasters we are now seeing actual games backed with real progress. Ancient Cities is one of those games. The city builder game Ancient Cities from Uncasual Games will showcase the struggles & conditions human society has overcome to reach where we are today.
At first we thought this to be another city builder clone of other games in the genre, but when looked closely Ancient Cities is much more ambitious & they want to be the most realistic city builder with almost real world dynamics & strategy elements thrown in to make it a full fledged RTS.
The game will start from the neolithic era from where the player has to develop their city & people according to the natural or political conditions like a raider attack or a natural disaster. Sometimes you will have to migrate your people to save them from disease or natural calamities as everything is simulated from weather, seasons to real time growth & death of people, crops & animals. The game will feature religious & social classes, family structures. Players will be able to explore the world & can use trading or war to dominate the world.
With the kickstarter already raising more than 125,000 Euros, the game is under full development currently for PC & might extend to other platform like linux but nothing is confirmed as of now.
Nowadays strategy and/or city builders are not sought after as they once were; but Ancient Cities can change that as it borrows heavily from games like “Black & White” & improves it with a lot of new innovative ideas which can really bring about something new to gamers who are bored of the stagnation that video game industry is going through these days with the similar rehashes, unneeded reboots etc.
With the all ideas executed right the game from Uncasual Games could be a breath of fresh air to both strategy genre lovers or gamers as a whole. If you want to know more about the steam greenlit project go support them at their kickstarter page.
